GYMNASTICS / TUMBLING FAQs
Q: What should my gymnast / tumbler wear to class?
A: Students can wear a leotard, leotard w/ shorts or comfortable / soft clothing. No jeans or clothing with strings or buttons. Students in Gym 1 (the main gym) should go with bare feet or can wear gymnastics slippers (kind of look like ballet slippers) if they prefer. Students in Gym 2 (the smaller gym) can go with bare feet or socks that have the anti-skid grips on the bottom.
Q: How should my gymnast / tumbler have their hair for class?
A: It is required that all hair that is long enough be pulled up so that it is away from the eyes and off the neck. A bun, pony tail, pig tails, braid, or other up do are appropriate. Please make sure that you have whatever supplies you might need including: hair tie, scrunchie, bobby pins, clips, etc..
Q: Are there bathroom and water breaks?
A: Students should use the bathroom before the start of class. There are 3 bathrooms in the main lobby. Students should bring a labeled water bottle into the gym with them and place it on the bench (water only in the gym). The goal is to keep the kids in the gym for their entire class time.
Q: What jewelry is allowed during gymnastics / tumbling class?
A: Students may wear stud earrings and soft bracelets and anklets. No: hoop or dangling earrings, rings, watches, or other jewelry that could get hooked while on the equipment or if a coach is spotting.
Q: When can my student move up classes?
A: Once a student has passed their 6th birthday their are a couple class levels they may be placed in based on age and skill level. A student can be promoted to the next class level at any point during the season if a coach signs off that they have demonstrated consistency and confidence with the required skills. If they are still missing a skill or two they will remain in their current level until everything is checked off. If the class level is full, then the student can be added to a waiting list and keep perfecting the basics until a new space opens up. Our coaches will do official evaluations in May / June that get emailed to parents in mid-June.
Q: What is the difference between Gym 1 and Gym 2?
A: Gym 2 uses the smaller equipment for kids 6 year and under. Classes in Gym 2 are 40 minutes long. Classes are basically broken into 4 different 10 minute segments including warm-up, tumbling, bars, and either balance beams or vault stations.
